About Us
Alexander Graham Bell had just turned fifty years old, and his "telephone" was beginning to be selectively installed throughout the United States. It would be six more years before the Wright Brothers would make their historic flight. The year is 1897, and Frank Stark launches his f
amily in the furniture business.
Frank’s reputation of honesty, fairness, and his willingness to "go the extra mile" soon caused the business to grow and prosper. Frank’s son, Middleton, joined the family business in 1921 and saw the business through the Great Depression of the '30s, World War II, and the prosperous post-war years of the '50s.
After graduating from the University of Colorado in the 1950s, Ed and Larry Stark (Mid’s sons) followed their father in the growing furniture business. In the 1960s Ed and Larry automated the family operation with one of IBM’s very first "computers," the IBM System-2. By the late 1970s, Stark’s Furniture was fully automated and helping other stores increase profits with their unique software package. Today, four generations and a century later, the Stark family is still actively involved in the day to day operations of the Colorado corporation they established back in 1897.
